Found a Apollo 8 autograph photo with Anders, Lovell, and Borman signatures. Is it worth anything? I think they are actual signatures because each is in a different pen ink. Photo is of earth from space.

If authentic, your signed photo could be quite valuable. But to tell, a look at the autographs is really needed. If you can share a scan or digital photo of the signatures, the community here can help (look here for help with posting an image).

Different ink isn't a guarantee that they aren't autopens or pre-printed, although I have yet to see an autopenned view of Earth. As Robert suggests, post a photo here and we can assess it.

The signatures are each in a different area of the photo. Borman on the right in black sharpie (faded). I think with a dark dots where he released the pen lifting at end of each signature. Lovell is in faded red in middle and Anders to left in faded black as well.

In this instance, the dots are one indication that these autographs were applied to the photo using a machine called the Autopen. The Autopen uses real pens to trace a signature pattern.

The best way to identify an autopenned photo is to compare with known signature patterns: William Anders, Frank Borman and James Lovell.

Autopenned photos have minimal value, between $5 and $20 at auction.

Per Robert's pattern links, it looks like they are all autopens. Lovell - pattern #3, Borman - pattern #2, and Anders - pattern #3. You can see where the machine seems to have moved when tracing the Anders pattern from the initials to the surname.

All times are CT (US)
