It looks like this seller is selling a few of these. They appear to be cut from a larger tile. This piece is very old and came from the sequence of tiles that were adhered to Columbia on it's first flight. The tile pieces most certainly look unflown, although that statement sounds very ambiguous.Personally, I find it very saddening that even shuttle tiles are being hacked to pieces. I can understand cutting up foil or payload bay liner, but an intact tile? I just hope this seller realizes the dangers of the fiber particles. One reason NASA isn't releasing tiles to the public is because they're afraid of liability issues caused by people mishandling the tiles and getting themselves hurt. |

I have one of these. They were not cut apart by an eBay seller, or from a larger tile, nor were they ever installed on Columbia.Lockheed Missiles & Space Company distributed these sample tile pieces to the media at the STS-1 launch. The info card is the giveaway. The tile sample and card were packaged in a small plastic case with a foam pad to cushion the tile. |

Ah, I guess Lockheed just did a poor job at cutting them (the edges of the ebay listed tile look really rough, and the powder on the top around the edges looked like it'd been freshly cut). | |
