Hello passionate collectors! I have a friend who is in possession of what he claims is a flown flag from Apollo 11. I've been doing research for him in to the possible value of the flag and I've come across some confusing contradictions. First of all, the flag is still in a plastic, 4" by 6" pouch, which seems to be very different from most other flown flags, which seem to have been given to people in a sort of framed presentation. There are also inventory tags on the pouch which include its part and serial number. When I tried cross-referencing the part number with the stowage lists, I couldn't find a match. Also, the parts tag lists that the flag was "stowed in LM-6," which I'm assuming means that if it was flown, it was on Apollo 12, not Apollo 11. What could this flag be? It seems there were a lot of different kinds of flags in different kinds of packaging flown in the various Apollo missions. He claims the flag was given to his father by someone who was presented it by NASA. Would they have presented the flag still in its plastic pouch? If the part number is not listed on the stowage list does that mean it simply wasn't flown? There is a lot of contradicting data and I'm at a bit of a loss to figure out what this is and how much it would be worth. You all seem incredibly knowledgeable. What do you think? |

Without any supporting documentation, this is not something that will be easy to claim as "flown". If the presentation you are referring to has evidence that it was flown, it would be great to see a picture of it here. We could then help you determine its authenticity. Tahir | |
