Any thoughts on these Mercury astronaut signatures? I'm convinced the Grissom, Cooper and Shepard are autopens but would like your thoughts on the others. John Glenn looks good and Scott Carpenter does not have a known autopen pattern according to the guide. It's like dirty old paper with the patches died later. The signatures are in different ink, but are placed well. The description is more of a documentary on the astronauts, not the autographs. A few people have bid on it as you can see. Thoughts? |

All of the signatures are authentic, but they are also all reproductions. From the description here: This set of preprinted Mercury 7 autographs was originally part of a collectors book of space patches, complete with a genuine embroidered NASA vector patch attached above the signatures. The signatures are quite convincing (being printed in different inks) and this page is frequently seen separated from the original book, at which point many people make the mistake of thinking they are genuine signatures. |

At first glance, Robert, though I am not able to enlarge the image more, the Grissom and Cooper appear to be autopens originally applied even though all the signatures on this presentation are printed. Many years ago one of the same printed signed items came to my attention. |

On second look, I agree that the Cooper and Grissom signatures are reproductions of their autopen signatures. Thanks Ken. |
