Not astonishingly bizarre, but still two of the strangest space memorabilia eBay listings I've seen in a while...
  • "A Rock That Is Shaped Like The Space Shuttle" (A tiny little bit - and with an opening bid of $200.)

  • And a cross-stitch of a prayer. I'll quote from the listing:
It clearly states, "from Astronaut Frank Borman-circling the moon, Christmas Eve -1968- in Apollo 8." I don't know if he completed the cross-stitch himself, or he purchased it and gave it as a gift. By the way it's signed, I think he DID the cross-stitch while circling the moon on Christmas Eve 1968.
    Well, that's one interpretation...

Wow. Just ... wow. And of course Frank Borman had nothing else to do except cross-stitch while he was orbiting the moon.

This might uncover a heretofore hidden area of flown item collecting - lunar made handicrafts with such items as:

- Neil Armstrong knitted tea cozy.
- Gene Cernan latch hook rug.
- Pete Conrad macrame plant hanger.

What do you think other astronauts might have made in their 'spare time' orbiting the moon?

UNBELIEVEABLE- I hope nobody bids on either of these items. But, I fear, somebody will, thinking they're getting something special.

This doesn't surprise me. See, I've long suspected that Frank Borman's no-nonsense, take-charge persona was really a cover for someone who would unwind after a long, demanding day of lunar orbit by doing some cross-stitch. (Besides, Rosey Grier did needlepoint, so it's okay.)

As for me, I've always wanted to add to my collection a sculpture of the god Apollo, done in elbow macaroni by Tom Stafford. If I can find that, my collection will be complete.
