Picked this up a couple years ago, seller said it had something to do with the Chandra Telescope.
After I received it, I contacted Lester Cohen, who was intimately involved with the Chandra, he was kind enough to confirm that this was indeed was an instrument used to test the mirrors. The following is his email to me:
The Chandra x-ray telescope focal cap was bolted to the high resolution mirror assembly.
Attached to the focal point cap was scientific instrument, which determined that the x-rays went through the mirrors at the angle it was designed and assembled.
The x-ray generator was placed at a distance of 2000 feet when this test was performed.
I'm selling this for $699.
