UPDATE: These have been donated to the Deke Slayton Memorial Museum in his hometown of Sparta, Wisconsin. So they're no longer for sale, but do check out the museum if you get a chance! This listing is for a set of four pages from Deke Slayton's personal collection, from his days in training as a military pilot. It includes the following four items: - A "Calibrated Airspeed" graph from his training notes.
- A list of annotations from a restricted military document - Slayton's name has been underlined.
- Slayton's "Request for Transfer" form, applying to fly the A-26 bomber. Slayton originally trained as a B-25 pilot, but that was not the assignment he wanted. After training, he flew the B-25 in 56 combat missions over Europe in WWII. Upon returning home from combat, he immediately requested a transfer to the newly-created A-26. This is Slayton's personal copy of the form which confirmed that his request has been approved. He would go on to fly the A-26 into combat over Japan, in the final weeks of the war.
- Handwritten notes, seemingly written during a training session on aircraft performance. This is a half-page, which has been filled with Slayton's handwriting.
I'm asking $90 for this set. US Shipping is $5, and International Shipping is $17. This comes with a copy of a COA from Ken Havekotte. I originally obtained a partial set, with a photocopy of the COA. This will be included, but please be aware that it is not the original. These papers are over 70 years old, and they're in varying condition. Please take a look at the photos, which are the best way to assess the condition of each item. I will ship each of these in an acid-free archival sleeve with a backing board for long-term protection. Thank you for viewing this listing! | |
