Northrop Grumman, SpaceX and ISS Flown NASA Wing Name Patches and Flags available for pre-order now!

In September 2020, alongside our flight partner and with agreements from NASA and the ISS National Lab, The Space Collective will be launching a payload up to the International Space Station, where it will orbit outside of the ISS for six months and will be exposed to the extreme environment of space!

The payload will contain custom name patches, international flags, as well as other yet to be mentioned space articles.

And the best part? You can have your name embroidered onto one of our patches, have it launched into space where it will orbit outside of the ISS for six months before returning to Earth and making its way to your front door!

Read more and pre-order here.

  • Space Flown Name Patches - $300
  • Space Flown Flags - $300
  • Space Flown NASA Pins - $200

Please note that if you order anytime after 7th April 2020 your name will not be embroidered onto the patch until after the mission. This way you still get your space flown name patch, even after the payload is flight certified.

Around half of the name patches have been sold already and a fair number of flags. If there is any extra space after all the pre-orders I’ll send more flags up, but I can’t guarantee there will be any space left given how quickly the limited amount of space is being filled.

Thanks to everyone for getting involved so far!

We're a day in and have sold 2/3 of the name patches and flags. The deadline for orders is 31st March, though at this rate I don't think we will get to that date before selling out!

I was really excited to participate in this unique opportunity to obtain a space-flown flag. The hardest part was deciding between a flag or the patch option. But given my 11 letter last name, it was a little tight to fit that and a first initial on there!

It will be interesting to see the certificate presentation and the accompanying photos when they are completed. And the fact that your item will be onboard will certainly warrant tuning in to see the launch, transfer out of the airlock, and eventual splashdown.

Bought one too. My name on a patch flown on three different spaceships for months will be a funny little addition to my collection. My name being Jacques-Olivier Holzer, I sadly had to squeeze it to J.O. HOLZER, but it's a small sacrifice that won't hurt my ego.

I’m happy you’re both on board, literally! The photos we obtain will be very dependant on the astronauts and their time. Hopefully we get some good shots and hopefully even some video footage of the deployment. Either way there are always amazing mission photographs.

We’re nearly sold out of the name tags and the flags aren’t far behind which is amazing because I’ve not even informed my 4000 strong newsletter list of customers yet!

I placed an order for a flag as well. I've been on the hunt for a flown flag for some time, but the prices have really elevated. I think that this is priced reasonably considering that it's flying on three different spacecraft and it's actually going outside the ISS as well.

It also seems a little more "personalized" (especially if you plan to order a name tag!). I'm really looking forward to watching the launch/splashdown and receiving the finished presentation.

NASA Wing Name Patches and NASA flags have completely sold out in only 2 days. There are still some Country, State and ISS 20 flags remaining though!

Thank you everyone for such an overwhelming response!

A few people have asked to be put on a waiting list for name tags if more become available or if anyone drops out.

If you want to go on the waiting list just email me at richard@thespacecollective.com and I’ll make sure to keep you informed.

CMD, thanks very much for the positive response. I tried to make this as personal as possible. While only the elite of us will ever board the ISS, this way we all can, and we can watch it happen.

Thanks for coming on board!

There seems to be a little bit of confusion about this so just to clarify, as of right now the name patches and nasa flags are out of stock, but the country, state and iss 20 flags are still available.

Good news! I have managed to secure more space for name patches. These will be made available on the website shortly. The original 75 sold out in 2 days, so be quick!

Also please note that after some discussion with NASA there have been some changes to the designs. The NASA flag now has a black background as opposed to blue and the name tag NASA emblem has been replaced with the ISS orbiting Earth (this was altered at the request of NASA. If anyone who has pre-ordered is not happy with the new design, you're welcome to a refund so long as you notify me prior to 30th March 2020, anytime after that and the name patch will have been finished and loaded).

It looks like these are selling just as quickly as the others, I would urge anyone on the fence to be quick as not to miss out.

The deadline is 31st March.

But any how, I wish you all success, but I am not interested.

I had an enquiry about the 10% service discount I offer, and yes, it can be applied to the contents of this payload. In fact, the discount applies across the board. Nothing is excluded.

The discount can be applied if you're the following:

  • British, United States or Canadian Military (ex or serving)
  • British, United States or Canadian Fire Department (ex or serving)
  • British, United States or Canadian Police (ex or serving)
  • British, United States of Canadian War/Service Widow(er)s
  • British National Health Service Employees (NHS)

    OR you work for;

  • NASA
  • SpaceX
  • Northrop Grumman
  • Virgin Galactic
  • Boeing
The discounts "cannot" be applied retrospectively. If you want to apply for the Forces and Services discount you can do so here, and if you want to apply for the NASA and Space discount you can do so here.

Only 3 days to go before the order deadline.

IF there is space left in the payload by the deadline, I will add a few choice flags to the contents for those who are unable to pre-order. I can't guarantee there will be any space left, of course.

I'm also trying my best to extend the deadline and will keep everyone apprised of my progress.

Any possibility of having any actual rated wings or badges that you have earned via the military? Like the name patch, but don't want wings of something I haven't actually earned. Love the project that is taking place.

Gary, the agreement I have in place is very specific about what is allowed to fly and what is not, and it took a lot of time and effort to get to this point alone. As of right now we can't send anything up other than our specific name patches, flags and the other yet to be mentioned artifact. That would require an entirely new agreement.

It is, however, something I am looking into for future flights. I can't guarantee I will get a yes, but one can only try.

Do also consider that anything you send up risks not making it back. While spaceflight has come a long way, there is always the chance. Would you really want to send up the wings you earned, with this in mind?

That said, if you're not interested in sending up a name patch, there are flags available.

UPDATE: All of the pre-orders have been confirmed, the wing patches have been embroidered with your names and the flags custom made. The payload is now scheduled for flight certification.

To everyone who was unable to pre-order:

I know that many of you wanted to take part but due to the uncertainty with COVID-19, were unable to do so. But, I do have some good news; a workable solution.

With the excess space I have available, I am going to send up a small bundle of extra wing patches without names, as well as a limited number of extra flags.

What this means is that the wing patches will fly into space and then upon their return to Earth, your name will be embroidered onto them. So you still get your customized space flown patch with your name on.

I genuinely don't know if this solution is what everyone would want, but it was the only way I could think to include those of you who couldn't pre-order.

I am happy to reserve a name patch and/or flag until September for anyone who wants one, all you need to do is email me at richard@thespacecollective.com. I hope this helps.

So many of you asked what else I was flying in the payload due to be launched to the ISS in September, and here it is! A limited-edition run of 100 gold enamel NASA pins.

On the reverse side will be an ID number, serial number (1-100) and a "flown in space" engraving.

You can pre-order and select which serial number you want here.

To anyone still on the fence, I have less than 10 silver name patches and less than 20 gold name patches remaining. I expect these to sell out within the coming weeks.

There is only 1 state flag available for each state now (with some now out of stock).

The silver name patches have completely sold out. There are only a handful of gold name patches remaining.

There are also only a small handful of American flags, NASA flags, and ISS 20 flags remaining also.

ISS Payload Update: Flight Changed to NG-15

I have received official notification that the payload will be delayed due to the effects of Covid. The payload was scheduled for launch in September aboard Grumman Cygnus NG-14, but alas, it is now targetting for launch on February 1st aboard Grumman Cygnus NG-15 (awaiting final confirmation from NASA).

I know this will come as unfortunate news, but I want to assure everyone who has purchased an artifact within the payload already that the payload will still reach its destination, it will just take a little longer than planned.

These are unusual times, and I greatly appreciate everyone's patience and again would like to thank all of you who came aboard on this incredible journey!

PAYLOAD UPDATE:

Cygnus NG-15 (S.S. Katherine Johnson) launched and docked successfully with the International Space Station in February. You can watch the events unfold here.

On 8th April, JAXA astronaut Soichi Noguchi installed the MISSE Science Carriers (MSC), the MISSE Power & Data Box (MP&D), and the MISSE Switch Box (MSB) on the MISSE Transfer Tray (MTT) in preparation for deployment on the MISSE-FF outside of the International Space Station!

Here are a few images, courtesy of NASA:

The payload will be deployed outside the ISS and attached to the MISSE platform between 20th-24th April.

After the payload is deployed, the standard procedure is for the astronauts to photograph it from various angles to ensure correct deployment. These photographs will be provided to us by NASA shortly after, at which time I will post them here for everyone to see.

PAYLOAD UPDATE:

The MISSE-14 payload containing these artifacts, currently attached to the exterior of the ISS is scheduled to be retrieved from the MISSE platform using the robotic Canadarm during the week of November 22nd and is manifested for return to Earth aboard SpX-24 (Launch Dec 1, Splashdown Jan 2).

It will then take NASA around 4-6 weeks to return the payload to us, where order processing can begin!

PLEASE NOTE: You will receive an email from us asking you to confirm your address. We will NOT ship your order until we have confirmation from you (we know some people may have moved during the mission).

To everyone who ordered a name patch after the deadline, we will need extra time to embroider your name onto the patch before shipping, so your order will take an extra 1-2 weeks to be shipped.

Thank you to everyone who came aboard!

Payload Update: The Return to Flight is Tomorrow!

The MISSE-14 payload containing your artifact(s) will return to Earth aboard a SpaceX Dragon tomorrow (21st) at 10.40am ET time.

Live coverage begins at 10.15am ET time. Watch the undocking live here.

What happens next?

NASA returns the payload to us 4-6 weeks after the return flight.

During this time, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your address (as some people will have moved home during the flight).

After you have confirmed your address, we will begin shipping your order(s).

Please Note: To everyone who ordered a name patch after the deadline (7th April 2020), we will need extra time to embroider your name onto the patch before shipping, so your order will take an extra 1-2 weeks to be shipped. If you're unsure if this relates to you, just check the date on your order confirmation email.

I'd just like to say thank you to everyone who joined this flight! It has been tough, very tough, but we're through 75% of all orders now. We expect shipping to be completed in the next 7-10 days... then we can have a hard-earned rest!
