My father recently passed on and I am helping to get items that he collected to the next caretakers. For a significant portion of his career we didn't know what he did exactly - only that he was career Air Force. Later we learn that in the early to mid-1960s while we were in Sunnyvale, CA he was working with Lockheed on the Corona program. From that time I have 125 feet of official Lockheed Corona test program 16mm film air-to-air footage showing a modified C130 trying to snag film canisters returning via parachute. It is dated 1962.I also came across a Newsweek magazine from February 6, 1967 where the cover story is the Apollo Tragedy. What a time capsule that is!
We were then transferred to the Washington DC area and he worked at the Pentagon, in what we were recently told was the NRO, until the late 1960s. Apparently he was a liaison with other companies helping direct satellite position and photography. Lastly we were stationed at Vandenberg AFB. He retireed a Lt Col after 20+ years.
After that career (and another in State Government of Oregon), he then worked part time at an art dealer/broker for many years. From that stint we have a Paul Calle Neil Armstrong framed print pencil signed by both men. It has been matted and framed properly for many years. The black metal frame has some scuffing in a couple of corners due to moves and storage, but the print looks great. It is S/N 831/1000.
I also have a small information card of "Helping Hands" with a personal note to my Dad from Alan Bean referencing Navy and Air Force. It was common for him to meet some artists or famous people associated with the art work he helped sell.
Lastly, although not space related, but worth mentioning, is a National Air and Space Museum poster of Enola Gay signed by all the crew. I have a photo somewhere of Paul Tibbets with my Dad as he signed the poster at an event.
If there is interest in any of these items, then please email me for any photos and further information. Thank you for taking the time to read this. — Mike (Joe's Son)
