spaceflori Member Posts: 1499 From: Germany Registered: May 2000	posted 07-12-2019 07:24 AM On eBay right now — ending Sunday July 14th: Apollo 17 astronaut initialled patches for Harrison Schmitt and Ron Evans! These are some of the rarest there are — only 150 made of each.

Since they were never available to the general public they are extremely scarce, although examples from what seems to be a production overrun came to market in 2005/6. By my count there were roughly 150 each of the RE and HS patches sold at this time, along with about 60 EC versions. These patches come up for sale quite often.

As the 2005/2006 sales would account for almost all of the ones given to the astronauts and we know that was not the source of those patches. Do not get me wrong, these are rare and awesome patches (I have all three). It is just the total number quoted that I question. I have never seen a production number for these patches and I have no idea if one in fact exists?
Rick Mulheirn Member Posts: 4167 From: England Registered: Feb 2001	posted 07-12-2019 06:26 PM Goodness knows when or where I heard this but I seem to recall a minimum run of 300 was the norm. That would tally with the 150 each plus Chris's estimate of the "overrun".
