SOLD This is a print of a painting by Robert Handville, who among other work designed postage stamps and painted covers for Sports Illustrated. It shows a portrait of Neil Armstrong, while in the background he steps onto the lunar surface. It is signed by Armstrong across his white space suit. It comes with a Steve Zarelli Letter of Authenticity, and it is in excellent condition. On the back there is a small patch of very faint discoloration that lines up with the darkest part of the black sky on the front, so it probably occurred during printing. The front is absolutely fine and there are no creases, etc. The size is 10" x 13". (The image size is 7" x 9".) The signature might look light in the photo of the whole thing, but as you can see in the close-up it is nice and bold. This was not one of the infamously fading blue markers. Signed images of Armstrong on the lunar surface are extremely rare. A signed photo made from the Apollo 11 video transmission (of the same moment portrayed in this print) sold at auction in 2012 for $14,350. Last year the same photo was put up at auction again, and this time it sold for $19,067. The price is $1900, including insured shipping. SOLD to Vince! |
