This item was given to my Father when he did communication work at the Johnson Space Center. I'm assuming the work had to do with this mission. I have borrowed the description from another one I found online:Flown heat shield from the Gemini VIII space capsule. Shield fragment measures 1 x 1.75 x 1.25, with the upper portion charred and melted from the intense heat of re-entry. Fragment is affixed to a 5.5 x 2.5 wooden mount with a plaque that reads, "Heat shield from Gemini VIII, Armstrong–Scott, March 16, 1966."
The wood mount has a couple of dings, but the heat shield itself is in perfect condition.
I have photos and will be happy to send them to anyone interested. Please email me at: elnopalito@mac.com
I am open to offers over $1000.
