Ohio State University announcement
Celebrating John Glenn and the 50th Anniversary of the Flight of Friendship 7
The Ohio State University invites you to join us as we celebrate the 50th anniversary of John Glenn’s historic flight in Friendship 7.
A banquet held on February 20, 2012, in the Archie M. Griffin Grand Ballroom at the Ohio Union will gather nationally recognized keynote speakers, prominent corporate and community leaders and policy makers, members of the Ohio State community, and Senator Glenn and his family.
This celebration of the past will look boldly toward securing Ohio’s future. All proceeds will directly benefit faculty, students, and programs related to science and technology research and policy at The Ohio State University.
A major exhibit on the Friendship 7 space flight will also be hosted by the university, based on the school's John Glenn Archives, located in the Thompson Library, Feb. 1 - April 30, 2012.
According to NASA's schedule, a Future Forum will also be held at the university on Feb. 20-21, 2012.

Ohio State University has updated their site with more details about the gala (including announcing the keynote speaker, astronaut Mark Kelly) and a long list of related events ranging from a Friendship 7-themed triathlon to Valentine's Day dance lessons in honor of John and Annie Glenn's long-lasting romance.

Neil Armstrong was a surprise speaker at the Ohio State program honoring John Glenn. Wish I could have been there. When I think of the word "hero," both Glenn and Armstrong come to mind.

I was there. It was amazing. Neil, John, and Mark Kelly all did a wonderful job. The panel discussion earlier in the day with Charlie Bolden, Glenn, John Grunsfeld, and others plus the live link to the ISS was awesome.

I was also in attendance at the Forum both days. I had an opportunity to meet all of the astronauts in attendance except Mark Kelly who was escorted into the dinner. I was even able to get my photo with Neil.
Senator Glenn is in great shape and seemed to enjoy all of the forums - especially the surprise live link to the ISS on Monday. Annie Glenn was in good spirits and even complimented me on my NASA tie!
I also had the opportunity to assist a friend with her interview of Serena Aunon - what a neat career she has had so far, I expect to see her up on the ISS soon.
