The USS Hornet Museum invites families and enthusiasts from across Northern California to join us for the public unveiling of this limited-time exhibit.
Sponsored by Virgin Galactic, the exhibit will be unveiled to the public on Saturday, September 18th at 1 pm during our popular monthly event, Living Ship Day.
The originators of Rocky Road ice cream, Fentons Creamery, have donated their flagship product for our visitors. (while supplies last).
The USS Hornet has the distinction of working with NASA since 1969 when the vessel acted as the Primary Recovery Ship for both the Apollo 11 and Apollo 12 Moon missions. The Mars Rover replica will be showcased alongside the museum's permanent collection of Apollo-related artifacts, which includes a flown Command Module, an astronaut Mobile Quarantine Facility, and the recovery helicopter from the film, "Apollo 13."
By hosting the NASA/JPL Mars Rover, the USS Hornet Museum is maintaining its role in educating visitors on both the past and present achievements in humanity's endeavors into space.
