Heaven knows if I could possibly take a couple of days off school this close to the end of the year, I would be making the five-hour drive across Virginia. Just seeing the Barter Theatre alone would be worth it- I took a grad class last year on how to teach about the Great Depression, and my final report on its effects in Virginia included a mention of this theater, which true to its name accepted produce from farmers in exchange for tickets during that time (and still today once a year). The unofficial motto was "Ham for Hamlet."
