I've had the pleasure of meeting Piers before, so it's unlikely I'll be able to make it down for the presentation. (He did one in Leeds not too long ago)

In any case it's my 50th birthday that day so I'm likely to be doing something else!!

Just got back from the Piers Sellers lecture. It was a tremendous event. Audience of around 120, of whom around 50% were schoolkids. Piers was brilliant with the kids/students and was one of the most engaging, charming and inspirational astronauts I have heard speak. His 90 minutes on stage included a 20 minute video of the STS-121 flight, much of which had not been seen before as it included some "private" onboard footage as well as shots from outside the shuttle/ISS. Even more than the IMAX space station movie you got an impression of what it was like to transit from shuttle to station and to tour the outside of both. The crew clearly had lots of fun on the mission.
Piers fielded 10's of questions from the students and his wit was really sharp. Asked why he chose to an astronaut career he said "steady job and health plan".
He signed freely after the lecture and I look forward to taking my son to meet him
and the rest of the STS-121 crew next week.
Well done to BIS for arranging this - I think a lot of kids will have gone home inspired.

What a great experience.
Maybe someday we can all see what it is like in space.

Good Evening
Piers gave a great talk and it was nice as well as BIS members to have a large number of young people there many of whom are studying Science. It was a very good talk.

He also gave a BIS flag and flown mission patch to the Society and we made him a member of BIS.

It was great to meet up with a number of CS members who also are BIS members. Nick, Rob, Ollie and many others.

Nice evening.
Regards
Rex
