bring back car passes for the public!!!senerio - I obtain a car pass through a NASA employee. Would security know if I am or not a worker with NASA just having the card pass on the dash board? |

Most likely yes, as you would need to first present your NASA badge at the gate to obtain access to the causeway (the car pass would only be good for parking once you on KSC property). It's not a good to try to circumvent government policies and restrictions. |

have they change their minds on vehicle passes for small public? (sheeplishly grin)would they considered federal employees from other departments who have security clearance for the sensitive work they do? ...and have federal ID badge |

As of today there is no indication that car passes will be available to the public, let alone NASA employees. No announcements to that regard have been, to my knowledge. |

I will be sittin at home watching the launch on NASA TV. Would dearly wish car passes were offer to the public...would be there at a snap of a finger. I like night launches. How the trailing thrust briefly brighten the area as a mini sunraise. The orange glow of the sky. |

Why the big deal about car passes? Don't like paying for the tickets? |

correct. Willing to purchase the $17 for the bus out to the viewing area. Protest the $38 package deal they are offering without refunds |

Any chance I could buy a bus pass from someone who has had a change of plans? I hope it does not come to that since I expect to get a viewing pass from another source. But if that does not work out I want to keep other options open. Just wondering if anyone might have a pass to sell. Thanks. |

I'll be watching the launch on NASA TV and (if skys are clear) go to my backyard at T+ 7 minutes to watch the last 30 seconds or so of powered flight "in person".[Edited by Tom (November 21, 2006).] |

Yes, Garry. The shuttle launches at 51.6 degree inclination for ISS missions in which it basically parallels the east coast of the United States. MECO is just about due east of New York.[Edited by Tom (November 22, 2006).] |

Lunarrv15-- I am not a VIP. ;-) But I do hope to get a Banana Creek viewing pass. I requested one from my senator's office and his staffer said she is working on it but I have not gotten it yet. So I am hopeful. If that does not work out I would have to check out other options. |

James and Bryan, I'll be there too. Dinner would be nice but I'm wondering about the timing. Since the launch will occur after KSCVC closes to the general public, does anyone know at what time causeway ticket holders will have to be there or when security will stop admitting entrance into the VC?

I expect to stay until Sunday. If anyone plans any gatherings for Friday or Saturday please let me know.Looks like I will be at the "causeway VIP" site. I didn't know such a place existed but that's what it says on my invitation. Anyone else going to be there? I know it is not as good as Banana Creek but I wonder if it is a bit closer to the pad than the regular public area of the causeway. I'm hoping there are bleachers there too. Anyone familiar with it? |

I believe they just divide the causeway into a VIP area and a public area. |

TNC, If you have a VIP 'invitation' as opposed to a Launch Transportation Ticket, (LTT), then you'll most likely be at the Banana Creek VIP area next to the Apollo/Saturn V building. When I received my invitation from my congressman's office for STS-115 it offered viewing from the 'causeway VIP' area. I also thought it would at the bleacher section of the actual causeway between KSC & Canaveral, but we were taken to the Apollo/Saturn V bleachers! |

Rob, you got lucky. :-) But that's great. Someone else told me recently they were supposed to go to (Static Test Road I believe) and were acidentally sent to the VIP site. They tried to round everyone up but I don't know how successful that was. They have indeed implemented a VIP section on the causeway. I believe it is related to the study (by Florda Today as I recall) that too many people were watching from the three-mile mark. |
