For those who may be unaware, Joe Lennox's book "Visions of Space" is simply wonderful, and I know many of you - like me - would find it fascinating reading, as he is basically one of us - an enthusiast, a devout collector, a space educator and visionary, a darned good writer, and someone who still thrills enormously to meeting people associated with our greatest adventure. I found Joe's book fascinating because, like me, his interest sprang from the Mercury flight of John Glenn, and just like me he began making clippings albums of Glenn's mission and subsequent flights. So I could really relate to Joe's book. If you haven't bought it, and I hope Joe will forgive me giving him a huge plug, it's a wonderful book and I cannot recommend it too highly.

Well done Joe - keep up the great work, and if I get to New York sometime soon I'd really like to be able to view your private space museum as described in your book - it sounds awesome!

Was going to say, Joe, actually I went in & outa little bit on your radio interview. Tell me if I've got you topped on a couple newspaper items: I have a couple precious papers from NASA'S PRE-MERCURY MOBILIZING at the cape. In the late 1950's!

I was there on 9/11. It was certainly a day that made you appreciate everything you had in life.

Yes, 9/11 was quite freightening. As I looked out a window of our back-up office on Wall Street (about 3 blocks from the WTC) that morning, I actually thought to myself "you might die today". It was quite a sobering thought.

When I wrote about it in my book, I titled the chapter "Taking Pictures of Nothing" because that's what all the tourists do. They raise their cameras into the sky where the building used to be and take pictures of nothing. It's kind of strange.

I remember you & David commented about liberal universities, you probably don't watch PBS too much! But I thought their installment in the series on New York with the WTC was so good, with the tight roping man, it was a little bit healing in a way.

Do you have other favorite parts of the book?

I really liked writing the account of sitting in the reviewing stands at the Apollo 16 launch and while it was difficult to write about, I thought the chapters about my eye prpblems turned out very well.

I don't watch many of the shows about the WTC - too upsetting. The ones that show the scenes from 9/11 are especially tough, so I've never watched one.

Anyway, Dana has some pics that were kind of striking to me. I lost exactly where she has them ( where she & her cats put 'em! ). BUT HERE are 3 other pictures like the one's of hers. Joe, was thinking of you watching the launch of the great Saturn Apollo. Thinking of all that's left of the gleaming ships coming back, they just didn't bring your wonderful ship from '72 back very clean, Joe . . . http://www.btservices.net/imagesonline/apollo_16_Casper.htm

Too bad the one website guy wasn't able to visit yet. Wonder if Joe got a lot of snow, how it was getting home in the wonderland.

I don't know about being the king of space books, but I do have quite a few. I've been collecting since 1962 so some go back to the fifties. I have an Excel file that lists most of them (it's not quite up to date) and I'd be glad to e-mail it to you - just contact me ooff-site with an e-mail.
