The Flight Test Historical Foundation's ( http://www.flighttest.org )2005 Gathering of Eagles will be held on Friday, October 21 at the Essex House Hotel and Convention Center in Lancaster, CA.

Whilst honorees and a theme have not been selected as of yet (they meet to decide next month) they traditionally mirror the Edwards events. This will be followed by a 2 day Edwards Open House and Air Show celebrating the 50th Anniversary of the U-2.

I last attended the GOE in 2003 and it was the most memorable and history filled weekend one could possibly imagine and will most definately be making the trip to California this October and recommend others with an interest in flight test to do the same.

Regards, Derek

I was sort of under the impression that the U-2 50th might be separate from GOE. Sort of like the Blackbird events of the past few years. Those are cool weekends though. It is great to see everybody in attendance there. They are very relaxed and friendly events.

Paul,

"Johnny Foreigner" can get into the Open House and airshow without the need for a body cavity search. You get waived into the base and follow the line to the carpark (lakebed) and then queue and go through security checks before actually getting to the Open House itself. If you attended the GOE on the Friday you could always get into the museum on the Thursday before the GOE or on the day of the GOE itself... bound to be a bunch of us heading out there for a look around and to drop a wad at the museum shop.

Regards, Derek

Last year they did cancel the Open House and Air Show, but it back on track. As for foreign nationals as I understand it for routine visits, it can be problematic without previous clearance but for the Open House itself you should be fine.

Doug - the 50th of the U-2 is not the Blackbird or RoadRunners group - this is AT Edwards. An event sponsored by EAFB. The FTHF is thinking they will mirror that and have asked me to help contact some potential "Eagles".

See you all there!

Thanks Al. All I have to do now is choose, or contact Sir Branson and see if he can give me bulk discount on transatlantic flights. Let's see:

1 ticket for Sims/Hankow event
1 for Edwards
1 for Reno Air Races
1 for SETP

..any more I should attend? <LOL>
