The Deep Impact spacecraft is scheduled for launch today atop a Delta 2 on its way to a July 4 collission with comet Tempel 1.
Launch is scheduled for 12:47:08 p.m. CST, and will be broadcast on NASA TV and Web.------------------

Hi Geoffrey-
How are things in Ireland-like your goodself-Ted and myself saw this event on the BBC and ITV News a short while ago- Whilst we were at the [CAPE}Last week preparations were being made- and had the opportunity to see these- glad it lifted off okay- we are sorry to havbe left Florida-all the sun and fun,got to see Story Musgrave,meet up with a number of friends, also saw the damage Hurricane Charley had done.

Deep Space shutdown into a kinda standby mode just after launch.Not seen any further updates on status but NASA expects be able recover from this slight setback. |

Hello everyone:Did any of you guys put your name on that list that was going to be put on a CD aboard this space craft? I did it last year around January and I got a NASA certificate stating that my name was on a CD that will be put aboard this space craft. Anyone else signed up for this? |

I did! I also have my name on both sides of Mars on the rovers. It's the ultimate graffitti. :-) In fact, keep an eye on the web site after the impact. They may change the certificate to reflect the date of impact. JPL posted a new certificate for the Mars rovers when they landed safely. |

I POSTED A PIC FROM THE DEEP IMPACT launch ( with lots of help) on the Robotic Probes msg. board, and a pic of the pad.Sounds like science fiction, sending a probe to a comet, doesn't it? Thanks for your post here David & all (and November25, hope you enjoyed our "Space Coast" of Florida ! ). |

Yes - I didn't print out the certificate, but I put my name in. A friend put my name on the first Mars Rover, too. It's also fun to search how many times your favorite celebrity has been entered, how many people have the same name as you, etc.  |

Yes - name on Cd on Deep ImpactWhat I've just started to do - now - is to produce some relevant artwork for each mission where my name is/has been on and place it onto sticker and put it on a blank CD. Some relevant notes underneath and - hey presto - an A4 size memento ! (Besides certificate of course)
