Got this from James Oberg:

Thursday on Discovery Channel: JimO on 'KAL-007' Disaster

The Discovery Channel's program 'Unsolved History' will feature the
Korean Airlines flight 007 shootdown by the Soviet Union in 1983,
on its Thursday, July 15 show, at 9 PM EDT (repeated Friday night
at midnight EDT).

I will be interviewed on this program and shown taking part in
a reenactment of the activities in the Boeing 747's cockpit
of the probable crew errors that led to the course deviation,
that in turn led to the USSR's attack (over
international waters
AFTER the plane had exited Soviet airspace) that killed 269 people.

My personal home page (www.jamesoberg.com) has a special
section that I put together in the summer of 2003, on my research: http://www.jamesoberg.com/kal-007.html

I will be updating it with further historical
materials to aid in the
discussion of this new television production.

Any suggested relevant links would be appreciated.

After I thought about the KAL 007 tragedy for a while, I recalled that there were all kinds of wild conspiracy talk about the event. One scenario in particular was that the shuttle was monitoring the KAL flight violating Soviet airspace and the surprised crew ended up monitoring the plane's demise. When I looked up the date, it would have been STS-8. http://www-pao.ksc.nasa.gov/kscpao/chron/sts-8.htm Sort of reminds me of the recent STS-107 conspiracy/spying rumors. FYI

Hi Jim-o
Found your posts very interesting, with being a pilot, I have been invited on many B747\200 or 400 series,Flightdecks, the 400 series all have glass cockpits, and most of the time the crew either put the aircraft onto auto-pilot most of the time, Also the Korean Airline Pilots had not been trained up to scratch, as it were,I know a friend who flew for them and now flies a B747 for
Virgin Atlantic, mainly over the pond to the USA, he left KAL because the training was crap-to coin a phrase. I have friends who are in the AAIB- Aircraft Accident Investigaion Branch and beleive me- I have heard some tales----
Your report is very wel done- congrats, and I am an aviation buff, as well as a fully
qualified pilot. The 747 is a great plane to fly.
cheers from Brenda Isle of Man.

ps KAL are ordering more B747-400 plus B777.
