From The American Radio Relay League:

Retired NBC News science correspondent, producer and executive Roy Neal, died August 15 in High Point, North Carolina. He was 82. Neal underwent major heart surgery August 12 and was reported to be recovering. Recognized as a leading news expert in spaceflight and science, Neal -- born Roy N. Hinkel -- covered all of the Mercury missions for NBC and later reported the Gemini and Apollo missions and the space shuttle flights.

As a mezzmerized 12 year old, I remember his call of Alan Shepard's flight like it was yesterday.

May he rest in peace where all the good guys go..........

Hopefully Roy and Alan are having a good round of golf right now --

That is, indeed, sad news. For those not familiar with him, you can get a little more from this website with detailed bio info on Roy: http://www.angelfire.com/fl/engservice/K6DUE.html

Roy was a true champion of the people when it came to space reporting. Although they kidded him for being a "Press Pest", many of the astronauts were fond of Neal's genuine enthusiasm for what they were doing.

Suppose he and Al Shepard are playing golf on the moon right now?

With my sincere condolences to the Neal family,

A man you could ALWAYS count on to keep you up to date on those missions....didn't Mr. Neal often/always broadcast from Houston ???

He must have had the time of his life doing space broadcasts !
