Dec. 3, 2014, 7:00pm - 9:00pm CST
Gilruth Alamo Ballroom
NASA Johnson Space Center, Houston, Texas
You are invited to Johnson Space Center's SAIC/Safety and Mission Assurance (S&MA) Speaker Forum featuring a live performance of songs used by NASA to wake up the astronauts. Come and hear holiday, classical, jazz, patriotic and contemporary songs.
This event is free and open to the public. Bring family/friends and enjoy a night out!
From the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Shuttle and the International Space Station, music has been used to wake up the astronauts and to keep them connected to earth and beyond. As astronauts travel to space, music continues to keep them connected to their family, friends, and their faith. Come hear selections of songs played for the astronauts by Mission Control:
- Norma Williams' Flute and Cello ensemble will perform classical music
- The S&MA Choir will perform popular songs
- Sparky Koerner (College of the Mainland) Jazz combo will perform jazz standards heard throughout the space program
- Janie Macchiaroli's Sweet Adeline Quartet will perform patriotic songs
- Juan Manuel and Friends will perform contemporary songs
In the spirit of the upcoming holidays, each group will perform a Christmas/Holiday song.
