The next dinner meeting of the Tampa Bay Vegetarians is on August 24 at St. Petersburg Nights: Our after-dinner speaker will be our very own TBV Board Member, Lodewijk van den Berg, who will speak about his experience as an astronaut. Because of numerous requests, Lodewijk has graciously agreed to present this fascinating program for the vegetarian community and friends. Lodewijk, who was born and reared in The Netherlands and who holds numerous degrees from both The Netherlands and the United States, was selected in 1983 as a Payload Specialist Astronaut. During his 1985 flight, he grew a crystal of mercuric iodide and participated in several other experiments on board the Shuttle/Spacelab combination. Lodewijk will talk about the Shuttle/Spacelab environment, will show a movie of his flight, and will answer questions. Due to the special nature of this exciting program, it will not be the normal 10-minute talk. It will last around an hour, including the question and answer period. If someone can make this and get something signed for me, I will gladly pay their cost of the meal and an incentive. Thanks! | |
