I have just received a recent purchase of an Orbit ATS-2 "Everybody's satellite" launch cover, sent from a dealer I use occasionally who is based in Virginia. As usual it was very well packaged, sandwiched between two thin cardboard sheets and contained in a waterproof plastic outer pouch.

But the cover itself was also slipped into a "glassine" envelope within the plastic pouch.

I've asked the dealer who sold it to me what he knows about it, but all they can tell me is that that is how they purchased it themselves. Clearly Orbit and SpaceCraft are unconnected and therefore the launch cover and the glassine envelope are an accidental marriage, but I'm intrigued by the envelope. Has anyone else ever encountered one?

Do not know the time period but Space Craft Covers shipped their covers in glassines printed with the address as noted in your image to subscribers/direct sale customers.

The address appears in three colors - blue, black, and red.

Thanks for that information. It would seem I need to get one in black and one in blue to make a matching set. (Added to list 🙂).

Axman, I have a tiny bit of info about them on my website here.

Pretty good chance I'll have some spare SCC glassines here somewhere so if you email me your address, etc. I'll send some over to you. Cheers, Simon
