Ross Member Posts: 544 From: Australia Registered: Jul 2003	posted 10-28-2023 09:32 AM Notice that this cover has what appears to be a word blacked out to the left of Pacific. The ink colour is identical to the overall cachet. It was sold as an overprinted Atlantic cachet which it clearly is not. The word Atlantic on the Atlantic cachet is slightly above the word Pacific on the Pacific cachet. I cannot read the word beneath the blackout but it does appear to be a word. I have no explanation for this cachet.

If so, you could try taking a UV torch and holding it directly to the front of the envelope where the obscured writing is. It can help differentiate the letters from the scrimble when viewed from the back. In other words, place the torch on the obverse and view through the reverse. If that doesn't work try vice versa.

I'm making an assumption that if there is a word there then it was laid down and dried before the blocking ink was applied. If any differentiation is possible the enhanced polarisation effect from the shorter wavelength might help.
