I would like to announce the opening of a new website devoted to Recovery & Tracking Ship covers. It aims to list all know Recovery, Tracking and Communication ship covers and show scans of many of them.

In particular it lists many different cachets for each mission as well as documenting variations on postmarks, especially for the Primary Recovery ships. It also eventually will contain articles on many areas related to the recovery effort.

Over time I hope to expand the site to cover other aspects and details of the Recovery effort. So far, I've completed draft sections for the Gemini program, Apollo, Skylab and ASTP. In time I intend to add Mercury and STS-51L.

I welcome all comments and in particular, additions to the site.

Congratulations Ross on another interesting and very useful website for space philatelists. Your site shows an enormous knowledge of the subject of recovery ship covers. The covers shown are very sharp and clear.

Do you plan to include a few thumbnail photos of the actual ships involved in the recoveries?

Thanks for your kind comments.

With regard to adding thumbnail photos of the actual ships involved, that is certainly one possibility. My biggest problem at the moment is space (no, not that Space). I'm quickly running out and haven't decided what to do. So for now, I'm limiting the graphics on the site. There is also plenty of work to do with Mercury and STS-51L plus some extra covers for Gemini and Apollo before I consider extras. But I will certainly keep the idea in mind.

My Recovery and Tracking Ship Cover site ran out of room so I've moved it to a larger and hopefully permanent site. This site will allow me to eventually add much more content to the site.

Presently, I've added the main cachets and some covers from the Mercury program and I've added Tracking Ship Covers to all the missions.

Dr. Ross Smith has been an invaluable service to Astrophilately with his website for spacecraft recovery. It appears to be expired. Does anyone know whether he plans to continue?

Thanks for your kind comments. My domain was changed to a new provider, Hover. There seems to be a problem which I need to sought out. However, you can still get to the actual website here.
