On January 5th, the $4.05 X-Plane imprinted Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope variety was issued from Washington, D.C. with no ceremony --- did anyone get some cancelled for the first day?

Boy, the USPS sneaked that one out! The press release at Christmas time didn't specify an issue date. I never heard a word about it after that until this post, so nope, no covers from this DC'er.

Any news on when the $14.45 Express Mail X-plane stamp is coming out?

According to the 1-5-2006 Postal Bulletin, the $4.05 priority mail stamp and the $14.40 express mail stamp will not be issued until March 8, 2006 in Washington. DC.

Yes, agreed, not until March 8 from what I understand as well. My company may be providing some FDI material as we did for all similar high-value space stamps in the past decades. But there appears not to be much astrophilately interest from our people, overall, mainly because of the high Express Mail value rates required.

Find it interesting that the imprinted envelope had a different issue date than the two stamps.

The Feb. 6 Linn's reports that this envelope was issued on Jan. 5 out of Kansas City, not Washington.

Linn's is also looking for any reports of early-use dates for the envelope. If you have one, you can send the report to Jay Bigalke, X-Planes, Linn's Stamp News, Box 29, Sidney, Ohio 45365.

And post it here too!

Those two priority stamp issues will be issued on 17 March, if I'm not wrong.

The First Day of Issue facility is at the Mega Stamp Event at New York City.

You may recall that in 1997 the USPS issued a stamp for the "50th Anniversary of Supersonic Flight" featuring the Bell X-1. This would be an appropriate addition to combination first day covers. The stamp is shown here.

Which other stamps would be appropriate for combination covers?
