I have a collection of stamps and related items from Der Weltraum. I am looking for information about it, since all the descriptions are in German. It was issued in 1979 and appears to be a commemorative to the Apollo 11 landing. It is large format with 51 pages of professionally mounted international commemorative stamps, covers, and related items. Each page has descriptions and explanations, all in German. It is all bound in a 6 ring red vinyl binder and is in mint condition. The collection includes some very interesting items: - an original first day of issue cover of Apollo 11, postmarked July 20, 1969 and September 9, 1969. It is the 9-1/2-inch envelope with an etching of the image on the stamp on the envelope with the words "Man's First Landing on the Moon." (As I am sure you know, the master printing die for the Apollo 11 stamp was carried to and from the moon in July, 1969. When the printing die returned to earth it then it was used to make the printing plates for the postage stamps that were issued by the Post Office and used on these first day covers and these postage stamps were not ready to be released to the public until September 9, 1969, and this is the date of first issue that appears in the postmark.)
- a full color facsimile of the first day cover carried to the moon on Apollo 14 (no. 52 of 55)
- an original first day cover postmarked July 20, 1980 with image of the Apollo 11 astronauts in the upper left and an image of the landing plaque. It has the original $.10 stamp and a $.05 Washington stamp.
- many beautiful composite stamp sets and their component stamps.
You can see a couple of pages from the album. Do you have any idea of the album's history or its value? Thank you very much. Jackie Alan Giuliano, Ph.D. Argosy University, Seattle jackie@deepteaching.com | |
