Will there be a forthcoming edition with the Apollo 11 lunar rover. Well, it is pictured in the ad with the astronauts, isn't it?  |

From their catalog, model #50381 contains the Apollo 11 CSM and the lunar rover. Aside the fact that there was no rover on Apollo 11 (I did email them about this...), why the CSM and rover and not the LM with the rover? |

On the posters shown above, the models are described as kits, not pre-finished display models. The item numbers also fall in the range of kit numbers, not the diecast series. |

The set shown above is official as Dragon Models #50375 Apollo 11 "Lunar Approach" CSM "Columbia" and LM "Eagle".  There's also model #50381 "Lunar Landing" CSM "Columbia" and LM "Eagle" and astronauts.  |

So they are diecast, pre-painted kits? Or do I need to paint them? The Apollo 11 ones seem to be unpainted.Could people give me opinions on the kits, availability, expected price, etc? I'm in Australia so will probably buy from US and have shipped over here. |

No paint needed. Some of the pics above show what appears to be computer-generated images of the mold used-hence the lack of color. (my guess). quote:

There are at least two Apollo 11 items coming out. Dragon is doing diecasts in their SPACE collection, but they are also doing model kits (the part numbers for the kits seem to fall in the blocks they use for plastic kits). So, there will be diecasts for those that want them and kits for those of us that want to build them and have the skills to do so. By the way, the astronauts seen in the SPACE collection picture look like they might be the 1/24 Can Do series figures photoshopped into the image as the poses and paint jobs look identical to what I have sitting on my PC. |

They are indeed 1/24 figures downsized to 1/72. By the way it is probably 1/72 for the ascent stage but not for the descent stage which looks a bit flattened. I made a rough calculation on the height of the cruciform, it is about 231 pixels on one of the image where it should be 271 pixels to be accurate. By the way the ascent stage keeps the scimitar antenna that was on Apollo IX (but not on XI) and the aluminium appearance of the ascent stage. Not a very accurate model I'm afraid. |

Considering the pics are of a prototype, I think it's a bit early to pass final judgement. The blue-ish SCA just released with Discovery should be evidence enough that who knows how the final product will ultimately turn out, good or bad. |

Both the pre-finished CSM/LM and the unassembled model kit are listed here. Dragon is proud to launch a completely new line of 1/72 scale model spacecraft... The 1/6 scale Apollo Astronaut is also listed. |

Continuing to be picky... the "Apollo 11" box uses the earth from the Apollo 8 earthrise photo.. Nice looking models, however...------------------

Dragon shows the Lunar Approach as a June release and the Lunar Landing as a July release, though their dates have been slipping as of late. |

The Dragon Models prebuilt models of the Lunar Approach and the Lunar Landing both hit the shores today, expect to see them on the flyingmule, timewalkertoys, and others as in stock soon.EDIT -- The Lunar Landing is the you build model, the Lunar Approach is the prebuilt model (the you build version of the Lunar Approach came out about a week ago or so) |

Today I picked up the "Apollo 11 Lunar Approach"- model at Aviation Megastore. The model looks pretty good. The only problem I have is that I got two left forward reaction control thruster units and not a right rc-thruster. That frustrates me a little. Is there someone we can contact to get a replacement part? |

I received the set on Friday and mine had two right forward thrusters but no left. Maybe our two packages got crossed. I'm letting my Dragon contact know but maybe we can trade in the interim? E-mail me. |

My "Apollo 11 Lunar Approach" and "Lunar Landing Diorama" (as well as the X-15 #1) should arrive Monday.I'll post my impressions of quality, finish, packaging, etc. but I'm not nearly expert enough to speak to accuracy of detail like others here. |

Well back in April I was pretty negative about Dragon's 1/72 LM - but I still ordered it, and mine arrived today (50381-03 Apollo 11 "Lunar Landing" set).Firstly, the overall impression. The CSM is as per previous releases. The LM does look like a LM, its well painted and has some nice details. It has lots of delicate bits to attach, some are a little tricky without causing damage. You cannot "dock" the two spacecraft without the aid of glue. Now the nitty gritty. The descent stage proportion looks much better "in the flesh", it may be slightly "squashed", but not by much. TCA nozzles incorrectly orientated. No landing RADAR protective shield. No EVA handrail. No EVA antenna. Docking target missing a bar. The "UNITED STATES" markings are still mis-aligned, how hard would that be to fix? Several minor insulation pattern defects. As to the size of the main windows - you be the judge. However, the LMP's window should not have LPD markings and I still think that all three windows should have been transparent. It clearly states die-cast on the box - well the LM certainly isn't, but I don't think its any the worse for that. Overall, not bad. Worth buying, and not just because no-one else has produced one in this scale. Enjoy. |

It's my understanding that you know people working for Dragon. Could you ask them if they're planning to update their catalog because nowhere does it list 1:48 scale models. It's frustrating and slightly irritating. Just a thought! |

I just received my Lunar Approach and found that I also received two right forward thrusters (right side as you look at it, left from the 'pilot's' view). Any word yet on how to handle this problem? |
