Here's Dragon's 1:400 Shuttle Discovery with Boing 747 Shuttle Carrier Aircraft (SCA).

But the model comes with a 747 whose top is blueish/turqoise livery. Isn't the SCA supposed to be as white as the orbiter as suggested by this image?

I think that's just an artifact of the images. I've got two of the earlier SCA releases in the all white scheme, and both are pure white.

The previously released versions I own are all white.

I know but I was referring to the actual model shown which I received 5/16. The 747 is not white, slightly blueish. The model corresponds to the image on the box but not (?) to the real thing.

Unfortunately, I'm able to confirm cspg's findings. I just received my model in the mail today. This particular SCA comes with an upper fuselage that is dyed slightly, but a very noticeable blue.

Not sure how this happened (bad reference photo?), but it certainly is odd given Dragon has produced a couple of correctly done SCAs before.

I'm going to write a note to DragonCare and see what can be done. Not sure it's worth sending back to the retailer, as this issue certainly isn't their fault. Besides Discovery is very well done.

I'm expecting mine in the next day or two. I have an accurately painted Dragon SCA (came with the Endeavour release a few years ago) in pristine shape that I might be able to sub if necessary...but still, for US$65 this seems pretty egregious. I'll post pics of mine, alongside this earlier release, when it arrives.

Yep. It's blue.

I haven't really considered yet whether to return the model to the Flying Mule...I'd like to see what, if any, Dragon's response to this is.

Incidentally, the landing gear seats on the new model appear compatible with the Dragon SCA I already had, but the new stand is not, so if I (or anyone else) decide to sub the older SCA for this one, it will have to be on the ground with gear down unless you're willing to use glue and/or filler. I might elect to do this, as the new Discovery has better detail and finish than my older Endeavour.

All times are CT (US)
