I have the Intermountain Railway ISS model and have been building it gradually over the past several years--reflecting the current status at any given time. Of course, there have been several modifications of the ISS configuration made since the model was first marketed. Now comes the time to add the MRM-2 Poisk and I'm stumped! I cannot find a direct correlate from the pieces left in my kit. There are several cylindrical pieces originally planned for a Russian laboratory, and there is a bulbous extension with an EVA hatch that looks similar to the MRM but has no docking port on the end. Any suggestions from you marvelous modelers out there? Do I need to "bash" my kit and custom make one? Is there something about the MRM-2 that has changed since its inception that I'm not aware of? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. |

I've been trying to build it gradually also, but have gotten quite behind in trying to add details to update the kit -- I'm currently on the JEM. The bulbous extension with the EVA hatch I believe was meant to represent the Pirs module, so I used it as that, and replaced the closed cap with an open cap to represent the docking port. Unfortunately, there's only one of that type of module in the kit. I'll probably use one of the cylindrical pieces with an open cap as a substitute (maybe slightly modify it) until they determine if Pirs will be kept or not (I heard the Russians may eventually discard it). If they discard Pirs, then I'll move the Pirs module piece to the zenith side of the docking port to function as Poisk. |

Thanks, "arg" for the suggestion. I think it's a good one. I believe that's the route I will go. By the way, building the model gradually has been a great learning experience, especially for the kids. |

The MRM2 Poisk, looks to be (from on orbit photos) to be a virtual duplicate of the Pirs docking module. The next one, which our kits have no parts to compare, will be the MRM1 module to be delivered by the STS-132 flight. Good luck. | |
