A friend returned from a visit to China this month. Among the interesting and generous gifts and souvenirs from places including the site of the Beijing Olympics was this 1:300 scale model of the Shenzhou VII rocket. In order to tie into today's Thanksgiving dinner theme, the model is shown here next to several samples of Taikonaut space food:

I don't know who the manufacturer of the model is or how much it cost. It didn't seem like an appropriate question to ask the giver. I do know that it was purchased in Beijing.

In this image the model is shown standing next to its box:

According to her the "LM" on the side of the rocket fuselage is for "Long March". S-7 was launched on a Long March II-F booster. But this rocket only looks like a model. In reality it's a pen, as seen here!

I was just joking about the taikonaut food. In reality those are various kinds of compressed Chinese fungus and mushrooms. Varieties displayed include black bark fungus and monkey head mushrooms. But it could be served in space and reconstituted by just adding warm water!

If anyone has more information about this model or its manufacturer, please post it here. Likewise, if you have any questions go ahead and ask. If I don't know the answer I'll check w/the giver.

They're selling them on eBay for $8.50 + S/H.

Just got mine in the mail today. Cute little item! There are some stray bits of plastic flash on the rocket nozzles, but it will clean up nicely. Overall it's a nice addition to my toy shelf. It's hard to go too far wrong for $8.50.
