Interesting! Having just completed Revell's 1/48 scale Mercury kit, the cable details at the bottom of the escape tower are identical, down to the texture of the cables. It even has the one arced leg that ends in midair, just like the Revell kit.It will be interesting to see if this is just a Photoshop job to get something on their website, or if they've really copied the Revell parts. |

Is that a square window I see for Freedom 7? |

Is this a model kit to assemble or a diecast preassembled display model? |

Good catch - I didn't even notice that. It also only has the inner pane, but not the outer pane that was flush with the surface of the capsule. |

There's another "view" of the model: |

It looks like the retro pack and straps are copies of Revell's parts. The rectangular window is still there too. But this may not represent the model as it is eventually released.Another nit... the flange at the top of the parachute canister is the bottom ring of the escape tower, so it should not be there on orbit. |

It's hit the coast so everyone should have it shortly. |

Somehow, I never realized how much smaller those Mercury and Gemini capsules were than Apollo until I saw them all lined up on my shelf in 1:72 scale! |

Dragon has made a major mistake, as shown in these photos. They have depicted Freedom 7 as a "window" type Mercury, but it was actually the only manned "porthole" version. It also lacks the thicker, smooth hatch that Freedom 7 had.Freedom 7 at the US Naval Academy Visitor Center. |

I think they went a little overboard on the white paint atop the recovery compartment. |

They didn't quite get the 'crack' right. |

You're referring to the shape or path followed by the crack, correct? The diagonal path from the base on the real spacecraft begins earlier than on the model... |

As people are becoming a little pedantic, let's push it further and see a picture of the real Liberty Bell in Philadelphia, so that we can compare whether position and shape are correct. Maybe the first painted "crack" was wrong! |

I beleive on the actual spacecraft they copied it from the back of a Franklin half dollar. |

It's Dragon Models USA web site and not Dragon Models' website. Their communication skills (or lack thereof) is really strange...(the Saturn V 1:72 is still not listed on Dragon Models!). |

Wow. The decals on Friendship 7 look terribly misplaced and out of scale on this version. What a shame. |

Dragon releases preliminary mockup images of their models as they continue to develop them. What you are seeing now as the Friendship 7 model may change before it ships. |

It's the same capsule but with a different reference number: the one you've mentioned in your post (Friendship 7) is DM-50394 whereas the one listed under October release is DM-50403 and contains the Redstone rocket along with the capsule. |

There are too many models... and the Saturn V 1:72 must have been added recently because I haven't seen it before today (12/19)! |

Agreed, too many models, too many scales. But I'd rather have too many than not enough. |
