When Launch Umbilical Tower (LUT 1) was scrapped in 2004, the explosion proof lamps that were mounted to the different levels and swing arms apparently went with it. They were supplied by Crouse Hinds and I've been trying to locate one and have copies built by a company in Titusville that said they could do it or with the dimensions from the lamps themselves. If anyone has any info on those lamps let me know. I'd like to one day have duplicates if not originals mounted in my workshop. Thanks for any help. |

The lights periodically make there way onto the auction circuit (believe there have been a couple sold in the past). |

Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to know what auction you saw them listed last time? |

Though this Launch Pad 39A Light Fixture is described as from the shuttle-era, the fixed service structure was built in part from the Apollo tower. From what I can see in photos and footage of the Apollo LUT, the light fixtures were the same or similar. |

As another possible thought, Crouse Hinds made these explosion proof style lights for other industrial applications (airports, power stations, ships, warehouses, etc.) and I have seen many of them for sale over the years.Searching eBay for "Crouse Hinds cage" or "Crouse Hinds explosion proof" may be a way to find similar items for less than the cost of new procurement. At the very least it may get you a set of cage/housing parts out of which the lights could be assembled. A fresh coat of paint might just do the trick. I had a friend do something similar with old airport runway lights and it provides quite a neat effect when they are on in the pole barn. Anyways, great idea for a project, best of luck and would love to see some photos when completed. |
