I am a long time collector of World War Two US military items. I have had a long time interest in the space program through Apollo. I would like to get into collecting Apollo hardware such as in the collections of some prominent members on the board. I found a book today at the bookstore called "Digital Apollo". It is published by MIT. Does anybody have a copy? Is this a good reference? I appreciate any and all input. |

"Digital Apollo" is under discussion in this topic. It is an excellent book, which makes you feel the large picture and the individual inclinations. It portrays the historical design and integration initial efforts to intertwine spacecraft, pilots and digital computation. As a graduate McGill U alumni with an interest for user interfaces (for musical application), I could really feel the quality of this book. ------------------ Francois Guay Collector of literature, notebooks, equipment and memories! |

François is correct that this is an excellent book on the integration of computer control into the man-machine interface of high performance jets and then spacecraft. But I don't think it's a good resource for information about memorabilia. One of the best books for that is "Relics of the Space Race" by Russ Still. It's out of print but comes up for sale often. You might also read "How Apollo Flew to The Moon" for an overview of the techniques used in the program. The book "Stages to Saturn" is a great look at the launch hardware and "Moon Lander" by Thomas Kelly covers the LM. Reading these types of books may help you decide how to focus your collecting. Good luck! |

As a collector, you should get all the online, printed, current or past catalogs you can lay your hands on from the auction houses mentioned in collectSPACE's Auctions - Reviews & Results forum. And get also the price realized lists for past auctions. |
