Here are several images of Grumman manufactured equipment I have been asked to identify. I am no expert but I have thought this might have been used in manufacturing the LM with the purpose of testing the intrument panels abord the LM. Knowing there are more knowledgeable than me on this board, I anticipate your opinion. http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel67.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanelBackLabel67.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel67Label.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel67Sidestickers.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel69.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel69Label.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel69LeftLabel.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel71.jpg http://davidspeckmd.org/~davids/img/lm/LEMPanel71Label.jpg Thanks, Vince |

Vince...my preliminary vote is that these comprise either a crew or engineering training simulator ..what can you tell us about where these panels are located and how they came to be aquired?------------------ Scott Schneeweis URL http://www.SPACEAHOLIC.com/ |

I agree with LCDR's assessment..they look to be training panels, not quite sim panels as some of the dials, knobs and such are stenciled on, not actual hardware.Still great to have, however. |

My thoughts were that these panels which provide status display, are interconnected as part of the simulator to show which switches are toggled by the crew and to indicate specific conditions while undergoing training within a cabin mock-up.[Edited by LCDR Scott Schneeweis (September 29, 2006).] |

Scott appears to be handling this discussion with great skill. Go Scott!I haven't figured out if these panels were training tools, or equipment testing tools. One clue would be, how many connectors are on the back of each cabinet? If there are many connectors, they are perhaps testing units. These units might have been used as control panel substitutes during LM system testing. Otherwise, they are probably for training. ------------------ John Fongheiser President Historic Space Systems, http://www.space1.com |

This equipment is located near Syracuse, New York. Some panels are filled with equipment and some have been cannibalized with little left. I am not certain if any of these items are for sale but I am trying to get more photos of the insides. I will post them when received.Vince |

Vince, Philip has posted the perfect link for you. Email Frank Pullo from the website as he worked as test director at Grumman, he would know if it was used for testing. Adam |

I tried reaching Frank Pullo last week but his emails kept bouncing and phone went unanswered...hopfully just a short technical glitch as his website remains functional...R/Scott |

I spoke with him on the phone in January; got his phone number off of one of the standard "find a person" web sites. I originally tried contacting him before Thanksgiving, but his email bounced. I emailed his ISP, and they said that he'd discontinued his account. Since S/CAT was still up at the time, I took that opportunity to make an off-line copy of the site. |

There is a May 2006 backup of the site on archive.org http://web.archive.org/web/20060427180631/users.specdata.com/home/pullo/ Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

I've resurrected Frank's site here: http://www.ehartwell.com/LM. I retrieved everything available from the Internet Archive, then reformatted it to remove the frames and reduce it to just a few pages. I haven't changed the original text much, other than correcting the odd typo and reformatting it. For purists, the original site is here: http://www.ehartwell.com/lm/pullo/index.htm (I tweaked the frames so they work with HTML 4). The Internet Archive version is missing many of the photos from the "Manufacturing Picture Show" (see: http://www.ehartwell.com/lm/SCATPictures.htm) and CB_ECS2.JPG from the "ECS & Fluids" page. If anybody has copies of those pictures (mikej?) please email them and I'll add them to the site. Anybody have any stories about Frank Pullo they'd like to share? |
