I've gotten a little more history on them. The lady that owns them was in charge of keeping the space clothing sterile and dust free. She became good friends with Neil and after apollo 11 he gave them to her. I don't believe these were on the moon. These were part of his training gear for Apollo 11. Judging by the serial number I'd say what you have there is a pair of trousers from an inflight coverall garment - just like this one: http://www.collectspace.com/buyspace/artifacts.html#conradsuit As to it's use or history I can't say but the date certainly looks appropriate for Apollo 11. As you've probably guessed, the fact that it is Armstrong's is going to help it's value, possibly quite substantially.

Here is a photo of the Apollo 11 crew in training, wearing pants that are very similar. It's even possible that Neil is wearing the same pair that you have for sale, but that would be very hard to verify. |

Just looked in my copy of the Crew Systems Division Postflight Test Plan for Apollo 11. It confirms that the crew's inflight coverall trousers had identical part numbers to the pair you're selling. Unfotunately the list doesn't include serial numbers, so there is no way of telling from this document whether your pair are just a spare, used in training or flown on the mission. At the very least it confirms that they are identical to the type flown on Apollo 11.Regarding selling - in my own experience high value spacesuit / flightsuit items don't always realize their best price on eBay. I've got some of my best bargains there Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

I'm probably wrong in assuming that the 1001 serial number indicates the first one made for him. The only reason I brought up Ebay is that I am an Ebay seller which is why the customer came to me. They have left it to me as to whether or not Ebay is the best venue to sell them on. |

Regarding the serial number - no, you can't tell much from it. The few numbers I've seen have been higher (i.e. manufactured later) than this one, but that could mean manufactured an hour, a week, a month or years later. Generally serial numbers were continuous across all similar garments (i.e. Armstrong wouldn't have had his own sequence of serial numbers).Cheers, Matt ------------------ www.spaceracemuseum.com |

I would contact Aurora auction house to sell them. They will do a lot of leg work to find out the authenticity and you will get a better price. I would not put it up on Novaspace as they don't have much traffic and most of the items have high reserves or are overpriced (so much so, that I rarely even look at the site anymore). You won't get a good price on ebay because people will question the authenticity of the item for just being on the site. |
