I shall attend Washington 2006 FIP stamp Show in June. Does anybody of you know, whether it is possible to see the covers which were postmarked during Apollo 11 and 15 flights to the Moon? I would imagine that the original moon covers belong to the National Postal Museum (in Washington). This I think is part of the Smithsonian which is the recipient of items (suits, spacecraft, etc.) that NASA declares as surplus. If they are not displayed at the stampshow they might be displayed at the Postal Museum. Best regards from Salzburg, Austria Walter

Walter- I will be at the show as Space Unit Vice President on the last day as our national meeting is scheduled with Dave Leckrone and Chris Calle our featured speakers. Dave is Hubble Space Telescope Scientist and Chris Calle is the son of stamp designer Paul Calle. When will you be at the show? Let me know. Hope to meet you there. ------------------ John Macco Vice President Space Unit Shady Side, Md. |

The Apollo 15 mail pouch and cover are on display at the U.S. Postal Museum through March 19 as part of the temporary exhibit Stamps Take Flight. The artifacts belong to the national postmaster's collection, so it is unclear where they will go after the exhibit runs its course.I've seen references that the Apollo 11 cover is also on display at the Postal Museum but do not remember seeing it on my trip there several years ago. |
