I was able to pick up this item at auction recently.

It's an interesting piece and I wondered if others might be able to provide any more information on it, for example, how it initially came to auction.

Presumably this was not with Astronaut Freeman on the day of the plane crash?

Ted Freeman's 16"x 24" cloth T-38 garment bag, and he wrote his name on both sides.

I cannot say the bag was or was not aboard the T-38 Freeman was flying when he had the fatal accident. Since it is a garment bag, I cannot think of a reason it would have been. Seems to me it would have been used in a situation in which he would have been away for at least a day.

However, I did see an auction many years ago (maybe 15 to 20 years ago) that included multiple items belonging to Freeman that were aboard the T-38 that crashed. Therefore, the question of whether or not this item was present in the plane is certainly a reasonable one.

Unfortunately, I do not recall any of the items of Ted Freeman's that were with him on that ill-fated flight which were offered as one lot in the auction. I think the auction house was Superior, though.

Just now, I think I recall a notebook with paperwork with Freeman's hand writing as part of the lot. That is the best I can do in regard to your question.
