Imagine my surprise while checking my phone messages this morning to discover a recorded campaign call with a familiar voice: quote: This is astronaut Buzz Aldrin. NASA needs a strong voice in Congress. That's why I want you to vote for Nick Lampson on November 7. If you elect Nick, he will return to Congress with eight years of seniority. This will be valuable in promoting NASA and the jobs surrounding the Johnson Space Center. In 2001, Nick represented the space center in Congress. That year he brought more resources to his district than any other Texas congressman. He did it with hard work. Return Nick to Congress and he will pick up where he left off with eight valuable years of seniority promoting the Johnson Space Center. Vote for Nick Lampson on November 7. Paid for by Lampson for Congress.

Nick Lampson is a GREAT candidate, and a Democrat, running for Delay's vacated seat, if I recall my congressional seats correctly. |

Jeff Foust at SpacePolitics.com reminds us that this isn't the first time that Dr. Aldrin has campaigned for a candidate who was promoting space exploration: quote: It's not the first time Aldrin has made a campaign appearance, either in person or recorded. Back in 2004 he appeared at a Bush reelection campaign rally near Cape Canaveral, voicing his support for the Vision for Space Exploration (even if Bush himself didn't bring it up in his speech.)

That would make Col. Aldrin an issue-driven and non-partisan type 'o' guy, wouldn't it? |
