Topic: An assortment of astronaut autographs

As a new and naive collector many years ago, I sent two covers at separate times to the NASA Johnson Space Center Astronaut Office asking if some astronauts could autograph them. The result were two covers totaling 15 autographs — nine on one cover and six on the other. But they had little collector significance, as they were just a mixture of autographs from astronauts who mostly had little in common, such as not being on the same flight crew.The astronauts who signed ranged from two astronauts who never flew in space, to a Mercury/ASTP astronaut and an X-15 pilot/Shuttle commander. Also included are autographs by two Skylab astronauts, two Skylab/shuttle astronauts and seven shuttle astronauts. So it's hard to find a place in a collection for such autographed covers even though they were signed well and included several significant astronauts. So, all these years, these two covers have resided unappreciated in a box in a cabinet.  |

Bob, your post reminded me of a signed photo that has hung on my wall for 25 years. It was a gift from a good friend, for which I am still grateful. She worked at Ames Research Center and placed this (unsigned) photo print out at the Vertical Motion Simulator (VMS), where astronauts came to train. So the autographs can be grouped as (mostly) space shuttle pilots and commanders (on an EVA photo) but they aren't a complete set (to my knowledge). It was just who was at Ames at that particular time when the photo was out to be signed and who chose to sign it. The autographs are: Ken Cockrell, Jim Wetherbee, Jim Halsell, Brian Duffy, Dom Gorie, Bill McArthur, Mark Kelly, Philippe Perrin, Gus Loria, Scott Kelly, Kent Rominger, Rick Husband, James Kelly, Mark Polansky and Leroy Chiao.  |

Actually, Bob they are not too bad signed covers. The fact that you sent them to JSC and someone had all these astronauts sign them. I had never thought about doing it your way. Still interesting covers |

I did a similar thing with the shuttle flight directors back in 2009.
