St Thomas the Apostle Episcopal Church in Nassau Bay, located near Johnson Space Center, has unveiled EarthRise, a new monument recognizing "the many contributions to the U.S. space program by African-Americans," including the church's former parishioner, astronaut and former NASA Administrator Charles Bolden.

Others depicted on the $125,000 installation include the diverse members of NASA's "TFNG" Group 8 astronauts, Sunita Williams and Bernard Harris; Air Force trailblazers Ed Dwight and Robert Lawrence; mathematician Katherine Johnson; and physicist George Robert Carruthers.

The Rt. Rev. Andy Doyle, Bishop of Texas, Mayor of Nassau Bay Phil Johnston, County Commissioner Adrian Garcia and Bolden helped dedicate EarthRise on Sunday (Aug. 16).
