Linda Stafford, the second wife of the late Gemini and Apollo astronaut Thomas Stafford, died on Sept. 8, 2025, in Satellite Beach, Florida, reports the Weatherford Daily News. She was 82. On December 27, 1988, Linda married Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford, former astronaut and American hero. Together, they shared a remarkable life, filled with extraordinary adventures and travel. Linda and Tom journeyed to some of the most iconic places in the world, including the pyramids of Egypt, ancient Rome, an African safari, the Australian Outback, and a breathtaking ride aboard the Orient Express in China. They visited Russia many times to spend time with dear friends — the cosmonauts — and explored destinations such as India, Hawaii, France, Switzerland, Denmark, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Cambodia. One of Linda's most unforgettable experiences was circling the globe aboard the Coors Light Concorde flight in 1995, which set an eastbound record and allowed her the rare thrill of celebrating New Year's Eve twice in one night. In 2004, Tom and Linda expanded their family when they adopted two boys from Russia, opening their hearts and home once again. An avid outdoorswoman, Linda loved hunting, especially skeet shooting and deer hunting, and she also enjoyed fishing. A woman of many talents, she spent time crocheting, sewing, and creating ceramics, and she was known to also enjoy a competitive night of bowling. Linda was also a devoted football fan, passionately cheering for both the Dallas Cowboys and the Oklahoma Sooners. Fiercely independent and known for her sassy, no-nonsense personality, Linda brought humor, strength, and love to every aspect of her life. Above all, Linda cherished her family. She is survived by her children, Mark Hill and Kassie Pierce, adopted sons, Michael and Stas Stafford, her son-in-law Michael Pierce, and her grandchildren Tara Hendricks, Dayton Hill, Sloane Wellner, and Lee Neering. She is also survived by her brother Neil Dishman, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews, who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her. Linda was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Lt. Gen. Thomas P. Stafford; her parents, Harvey and Maudie Dishman; and her brothers, Russel Dishman, Jim Dishman, and Dale "Bud" Dishman. A celebration of Linda's life will be held on September 17, 2025, at 10 AM, at Lockstone Funeral Home in Weatherford where family and friends will gather to honor her remarkable journey. Flowers may be sent to Lockstone Funeral Home at 201 N. Custer in Weatherford, OK 73096. |
