In January 2025, a SpaceX Falcon 9 launched CrunchLabs' first satellite, a cubesat named "SAT GUS."
Since his early days at NASA, Mark Rober has been blasting stuff into space, and now he wants to do it with one of your photos! So, he got a satellite called SAT GUS and launched it into orbit to take the most epic selfies in the universe.

To prove to you that we didn’t fake the landing of your Space Selfie, we'll take a picture of the phone displaying your image with Earth in the background. Boom - you get a selfie with the Earth. A Space Selfie!

Why SAT GUS? Well SAT is short for satellite and you may have noticed it rhymes with Phat. Which just happens to be the name of the world's greatest bushy-tailed athlete and four-legged physicist, CrunchLab's squirrel mascot: Phat Gus. And that's why they say you can't spell "ingenious" without "GUS." So yeah, our satellite is a she and her name is GUS. And she's very happy about it.

I submitted a selfie soon after the invite went out and, 22 months later, here it is! If you have not already, you can add yours to the queue here.

Here's mine. This is the second time Spaceship Earth has orbited our home planet. Its previous flight was twenty years ago in the form of a 4x6 print.

All times are CT (US)
