I've been meaning to post this for a few months now, and the ongoing Discovery mission finally reminded me to do it! This is an MP3 I recorded of the STS-117 launch in June from the Saturn V Center viewing site. Used a Sony handheld digital recorder. If you've never gotten to see a launch in person, this is a great preview of what you're missing. I encourage you to crank it up... http://www.johnmcgauley.com/sts117.mp3 |

Having watched STS-117 from the NASA Causeway, I would love to hear the sound of the launch from the VAB area. The big question is: how do I play this? Probably no point including the term "MP3 player" in your answer.... |

Sorry, for "VAB area" read "Saturn V Center", but the comment about MP3 players still stands. Most of my family were killed by an asteroid 65 milliuon years ago. |

Blackarrow: This file should play in Windows Media Viewer/Player or just about anything else compatible with MP3. If you're having trouble getting it to run, trying right-clicking on the link and saving it to your computer. |

Yes, that works perfectly! Thanks a million, that roar brings back happy memories, although you didn't have to wait as long for the sound to catch up with the vision, you lucky dog! |

Thanks, John!I guess it could be burned to CD, and then put into my sound system with two big studio monitors for speakers rated at 200W -400W peak each I'll have to wait for morning as the neigbors might not like it.... |

By the way, does anyone have a similar recording (of STS-117 in June!) made from the NASA Causeway? I have the sound recording made by my camcorder, but it was affected by wind-noise. A windless sound recording from the causeway would be great to have. |

I'd love to hear that also if anyone has something like that too.I have a DVD that has a 5.1 surround shuttle launch. I put that in now and then and crank up my subwoofer. Ohhhh... that sounds GOOD! |
