Saddened to read of the passing of the Reverend Ken Clapham, known as the 'Bishop of the Moon.' He recently passed away on 1 March 2025, aged 77.

A familiar figure at many space events in the U.K. God Bless you Ken!

I wasn't familiar with Clapham prior to this post, so for the benefit of those like me:
Clapham ... earned that title after befriending James Irwin, the American astronaut who walked on the moon in 1971 as part of the Apollo space programme and was a born-again Christian.

A helicopter brought James to visit the village school at Over Kellet, where Ken was vicar for 33 years. Ken visited NASA, America's National Aeronautics and Space Administration, and the Oval Office in Washington.

And from the time of his retirement in 2016:
The 'Bishop of the Moon' became involved with NASA in 1987 after writing to the late Col James Irwin, the eighth man to walk on the moon.

He invited him to come to his village and speak to the children at Wilsons Endowed Church of England school as part of their space studies.

He and his wife Sue visited NASA in 1988 and have been back a number of times since.

During one visit he preached to more than 2,000 astronauts as well as scientists and their families in a Houston church.
