I'm thinking of selling a few pieces from my space memorabilia collection. I am in Australia and was wondering if anyone has knowledge of the recent tariffs imposed on foreign imports from private sales. It seems like things change every day. |

There are a number of websites that provide a rundown of current tariff policy/impact by country. Just Google. |

If these are items originally made in the USA, there should not be any tariffs. If there are, don't worry about them. The buyers in the USA will have to pay them. |

Maybe others have already noticed this, but eBay is now displaying an alert on auctions where tariff fees will apply: Due to US customs policies, the buyer of this item will need to pay import fees to the shipping carrier prior to delivery. Learn more |

Thank you Robert. Perhaps the best way would be sending the items directly to an auction house and sell them internally in the USA, as the import tariffs are calculated on sales not value. I fear these tariffs will deter potential buyers. I will contact some of the auction houses and see what they think. |

THe USA to UK tariff code for space cover exporters is 97 04 00.The category is "Postal Collectibles." The category description is "collector's pieces, stamps, postmarks, FDCs, and envelopes used and unused." Just make sure the customs form mentions VAT paid. The HS Tariff code differs from country to country in its length. In the UK for example its a 10-digit code: 9704000000. I don't know the length in USA, but if it's 6-digit it will be 970400, if 8-digit 97040000. You get the picture, whatever length it is just keep adding zeroes to the end. There are no customs or excise charges on these items. Apply the correct code, pay the VAT at point of sale, and they should sail through customs. |
