Cape Canaveral Space Force Station (formerly Air Force Station) had/has certain areas designated for badging/security. Can't find official documentation for them. Trying to make a list. Only know a few from current maps or from photos.

This is what I have found so far

  • 51 Hangar S
  • 46 Hangar H
  • 48 Hangar J
  • 55 Delta Operations Support Area/Guidance Missile Control Facility #1
  • 54 Delta Spin Test facility (DSTF)
  • 57 Delta Solid Rocket Motors
  • 59 NPF/DPF/SPSA
  • 60 ESA 60
  • 52 Pad 26?
  • 39 Bomarc/Delta Spin Test
  • 38 AE
  • 12 Pad 12 (assuming this applies to the rest of the pads)
  • 42 southeast of Assembly Building "R."
  • 41 Hangar C
  • 52 Hangar U
  • 56 Juno/JPL Spin Test Facility?

If you know of others, please share and provide the source.

In K-STSM-14.1.14-REVE-O&C "O&C Building Payload Processing and Support Capabilities" Nov. 1994, p.2-4 "A KSC badge and area permit with numbers 40 and 73 are required for access."

Is it possible security areas were posted off-site of the CCAFS?

These numbers predate the formation of KSC and were only for facilities on the Cape. The ones you listed are for PACAS cards on KSC in the 80's-00's.

You can see the number for Hangar S here.

This is Area 55.

Jim, I'm sure you know about the book "Project Mercury and the Badges of the Mercury Era" by Steven Kovachevich. Although the subject is mainly about the badges the guys had for security clearances, there is mention regarding the security areas and the numbers as well. Great book too!

Still need the collective help of this group. I am looking for a copy of AFMTC Reg 205-10 (or maybe AFETR Reg 205-10) Attachment 1.

This document would list the area numbers on Cape Canaveral SFS such as Area 55 or 59. They were used for badging in the late 1950's through early 1960's. They are no longer used for badging but some area numbers are still in use for describing the certain areas.

Here is the list of known area numbers:

  • 3 Mercury Control Center /TEL#3
  • 11 Pad 11
  • 12 Pad 12
  • 13 Pad 13
  • 14 Pad 14
  • 19 Pad 19
  • 38 Building AE
  • 39 Bomarc/Delta Spin Test
  • 41 Hangar C
  • 42 Hangar R
  • 46 Hangar H
  • 48 Hangar J
  • 49 Hangar M
  • 51 Hangar S
  • 52 Hangar U
  • 55 Delta Operations Support Area/ Guidance Missile Control Facility #1
  • 57 Delta Spin Test Facility?
  • 58 Delta Solid Rocket Motor Area
  • 59 Minuteman Assembly / Navstar & DSCS Processing
  • 60 Hangar AM
  • 60A ESA 60A?

All times are CT (US)
