Deadline Hollywood reports that Tom Cruise is plotting a movie to be shot in space with SpaceX. ...Tom Cruise and Elon Musk's SpaceX are working on a project with NASA that would be the first narrative feature film – an action adventure – to be shot in outer space. It's not a "Mission: Impossible" film and no studio is in the mix at this stage... But this is real, albeit in the early stages of liftoff. |

NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine via Twitter: NASA is excited to work with Tom Cruise on a film aboard the International Space Station! We need popular media to inspire a new generation of engineers and scientists to make NASA's ambitious plans a reality. And SpaceX CEO Elon Musk's reply to Bridenstine: Should be a lot of fun! |

In a feature for Ars Technica, I look at Everything we know — and don't — about Tom Cruise's plans to film a movie in space. Among the details included are the involvement of Axiom Space, the inclusion of director Doug Liman on the flight and what the only astronaut to fly with Cruise on film (to date) thinks about the project. |

Why not? Whatever your opinion of him or his acting, you've got to admit he doesn't half-a$$ anything when it comes to his movies... |

Universal Pictures is in negotiations to land Tom Cruise's narrative feature shot in space, insiders tell Variety. Sources said the production budget has been set at $200 million in the most optimistic projections. Cruise could earn somewhere between $30 million and $60 million, according to insiders...To call the film an investment on Universal's part would be an understatement. Cruise must still finish production on the latest "Mission: Impossible" film, which was stalled thanks to the coronavirus pandemic, before he heads directly into a seventh installment of the Paramount franchise. Given his production schedule and what several insiders familiar with the project noted as considerable prep time for the cinematic feat, 58-year-old Cruise could be well over 60 by the time he straps into the SpaceX Dragon vessel and jets to the ISS to make his call time on set. |

Deadline reports that Elon Musk may be a financial partner in the project. What did Universal Pictures execs require to commit to liftoff of the first ever narrative feature film to shoot in outer space? According to sources, all it took was an exuberant Zoom call with Tom Cruise, director Doug Liman and Christopher McQuarrie. They pitched the picture with no script (Liman is writing it), and came away with a production commitment around $200 million.Sources said that SpaceX's Elon Musk will be a partner in the project and the expectation is that is that McQuarrie — Cruise's writer/director on the "Mission: Impossible" films — will have a ground control role as story advisor and producer alongside Cruise and Liman. |

On July 3, 2022, Tom Cruise will celebrate his 60th birthday. It is unlikely that he will get a trip to ISS earlier. Perhaps he cancelled his astronaut plans after a Russian actress most likely will film on board ISS in October 2021? |

I don't see any reason his age will be a factor, if he is in good health. Dennis Tito flew to the International Space Station when he was 61. And the first crew to fly with Axiom Space includes 71-year-old Larry Connor and both Michael Lopez-Alegria and Eytan Stibbe, who will be 63. A lot of people assumed that Tom Cruise was flying on the first Axiom Space mission, but that was never announced by the company or Cruise. As noted above, he is under contract to complete other movies (including two "Mission Impossible" films) before beginning his space project. |

At first, I thought that this could never work, because in every movie Tom Cruise will dramatically run down the middle of some random street. But then I remembered that they have a treadmill on the space station! |

This moment has come — humanity started shooting movies in space. As for me, it's a rather interesting experience. Does someone know what this movie will about? Will it be space wars with other civilizations or aliens? I'm anxious to find it out. |

To the best of my knowledge, no details about the proposed film have been made public yet. |

Cruise may also be doing an EVA according to this article. Langely — who is the first British woman to run a major American film studio — added she hopes Cruise will be "the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station." |

As Jeff Foust (SpaceNews) pointed out today on Twitter, if a spacewalk is planned, then the mission won't be launching anytime soon. NASA is not allowing spacewalks for the next two private astronaut missions in 2023-24. |

No, because Polaris Dawn is not going to the space station. |

If the Cruise EVA is not at the station, non issue then. |

The article you linked quoted Universal's Donna Langley as saying she hopes Cruise will be "the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station." |

Looking for news on the Axiom/Tom Cruise movie to be filmed on ISS, from a 2022 SpaceNews article: According to business filings, SEE was incorporated in Britain in August 2020 as "Space Fighting League" and changed its name last year to Space Entertainment Enterprise. The company has not disclosed any financial information and has Dmitry and Elena Lesnevsky as its sole directors. The SEE release also claimed that Dmitry and Elena Lesnevsky "are producing the first ever Hollywood motion picture filmed in outer space," linking to a page on the Internet Movie Database (IMDb) website named "Untitled Tom Cruise/SpaceX Project." That page lists the Lesnevskys as producers along with actor Tom Cruise and SpaceX Chief Executive Elon Musk, among others. |
